Brooke Galloway has been chosen as this year’s DAR Good Citizen by the Otsego High School staff for her dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

She’s a role model and a leader in the high school who is a friend to everyone and for those reasons and more, the OHS staff chose Brooke Galloway as this year’s DAR Good Citizen, “I felt very humbled to know that, out of all the possible candidates in my grade, it was me who was chosen to represent this award's values,” says Galloway.

The Daughters of the American Revolution award centers around dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. These are values that Brooke says she works to live out each day. From turning all her work in to helping her family, she focuses on being responsible even with a very busy schedule, “I love to serve my community having almost 450 hours of community service in the past three years,” she says.

She is the OHS Student Council President, senior class president, served as a leader on the 2016 Purple Game committee and is currently a freshman basketball assistant coach. She is also involved in her church youth group and on her church youth student leadership team. In school, she has been involved in the high school musical each year, whether on stage or behind the scenes. This year, she plays Yente in this year’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”

She is not only a leader in her positions in schools, but tries to be a leader on the sidelines “by leading by example in all that I do with my actions and my words.  I love being a role model for all the people I lead and also my friends and peers everyday.”

Her patriotism is also shining, “I believe very strongly that the US is the best place on the planet to live and I make a point to not take that for granted.  Even though it's cheesy, I attend every parade in Otsego, and many times am even in the parade, driving my great-great-grandpa's tractor.”

Brooke will attend Central Michigan University with a full tuition scholarship. She will be in the CMU Honors Program and plans to major in Business Communications and minor in Event Planning and Management and Leadership. After college, she also hopes to go to seminary school and go into some aspect of the ministry.

All Allegan County DAR Good Citizen recipients are now up for a scholarship with the program. They’ll all be recognized at a dinner this month where the scholarship will also be awarded. Brooke is very honored to represent Otsego at the event, “These past four years of high school have been incredible and I'm glad I have been given so many opportunities allowing me to leave my mark and leave a legacy of leadership, drive, and determination for the hard working students coming into leadership positions to come.  I want to send a huge thank you to all the teachers, friends, and family that have invested in me to make me who I am today.”
